What is Demand Draft or DD or Banker Cheque: Demand Draft/DD/Banker Cheque is a type of a document issued by a bank that directs another bank or its another branch to pay the presenter of the demand draft the sum specified in the demand draft at a certain date. The bank issues demand draft or banker cheque to its customer. Nowdays making payment by demand draft is quite common. All institutions specially colleges and school now accepts payment through the medium of demand draft. This system of payment is very safe and reliable both for the party accepting payment and the one who is making the payment. The person who is presenting the demand draft before the bank to receive the payment can encash it from any corner of the country whereas in case of banker’s cheque the payment can be received in the same city where it is drawn. If one want to make payment to a organisation which is in the same city then he must choose banker’s cheque and if the institution is established in another city then in that case he must choose the option of demand draft only in the form. India largest bank State Bank of India issues demand draft/Banker’s cheque to its customer for letting its customer make cashless payment. How to apply for State Bank of India demand draft request

SBI customer has to personally visit the concerned branch of SBI, there he need to fill up a form up a demand draft form. He should mention the name of the party who will be accepting the payment. The customer has to pay the nominal charges as fee for this service. The customer has to confirm with the bank to enquire about the bank charges levied on the amount. After filling the demand draft slip one need to present it to the cashier, who then processs it and issue the demand draft to the customer as per the details specified in the demand draft slip or form.

There are two part of a Demand Draft/DD Slip of State Bank of India one is customer copy which is at the extreme left (as shown in obove image) and the bank copy (which is at the extreme right). The customer need to fill both bank & Customer Copy,  the bank retains the bank copy and returns the customer copy as receipt to the customer after doing signature and putting bank seal on the customer copy.

Customer Copy

CASH/TRANSFER: In this option  you have to tick on either cash or transfer. Depending how you are applying for DD if you applying for DD with cash then tick on cash or if you are applying for DD by transferring from your bank account then tick on transfer.( in case of transfer you have to attach a cheque or withdrawal) in order to avail transfer from your bank account.

Branch: Just write the name of the branch where you are applying for DD.

Date: Just write the date on which you are filling the DD slip.

Application for Draft/banker Cheque’s : in this coloumn just tick of Draft. (Note if you are applying for DD in your own city you can tick on either on banker cheque or draft both acts as a draft and acceptable in the home city but if you are applying for DD for different city other than the home city then in that case you have to tick on only Draft.)

Applicant’s name: In this coloumn just write your full name.

Please issue Draft/BC in favour of: In this coloumn you have to write the  name the person, institution, trust, individual, etc.,  for whom you are applying for DD.

Drawn on: Just write name of the Branch where you are applying for DD.

Amount in words: Write the amount in words for which you are applying for the DD.

Draft/Banker Cheque – Rs. – Pc.

Amount– Write the amount in words for which you are applying for the DD.

Exchange- In order to get the DD prepared, the bank charges commission on this service and the commission charged by bank is termed as Exchange. The commission charged by Bank depends upon the amount for which you are applying for DD.

(This you can ask from the bank officials regarding the exchange commissions for your DD amount.)

Total:  Just total the DD amount and the exchange(commission) the amount ascertained is total.

Bank Copy

RUPEES( In Words): Write the amount in words for which you are applying for the DD.

Payable at Branch: Write the name of the Branch where you are applying for DD.

Code Number: Just write the bank code of the branch where you are applying for DD.

Draft/Banker Cheque – Rs. – Pc.

Amount- Write the amount in words for which you are applying for the DD.

Exchange- In order to get the DD prepared, the bank charges commission on this service and the commission charged by bank is termed as Exchange. The commission charged by Bank depends upon the amount for which you are applying for DD.

PAN Number: Just write the PAN card number in this coloumn,  compulsory in that case when you are applying for DD with a value above 50,000( Fifty Thousand).

Name & Address of the applicant: Just write your name and your address in this coloumn section.

Signature of the applicant: Just put your signature in this place.

Telephone/Mobile No: Just put you mobile number in this place.

Signature of the applicant: Again in this place you have to put your signature once again.

Back Side of Demand Draft slip

Detail of CASH/CHEQUE Deposited: Just tick on cash if you are applying for DD with cash or tick on cheque if you are applying for DD by debiting from your account by issuing in favour of your account.

Detail of cheque: If you are applying for DD with Cheque write the name of the bank along with the branch also the cheque number and the amount for which cheque is drawn.

Detail of Cash:

Denomination: In this coloumn just the write the number of pieces of your currency ( either 500 or 2000 or 100) that you are submitting and that makes the total sum of your DD.

In the total box below the table write the total amount you are depositing in this column just mention paise followed by amount. Mention 00 always in paise section when the amount is in round figure.
