Muthoot Finance Chairman MG George Muthoot passed away at 72 in New Delhi

Muthoot Group Chairman M. G. George Muthoot passed away at the age of 72 on Friday evening in New Delhi. As per his family source, he fell from his stairs at his home after which he was taken to Delhi’s Escorts hospital, where the doctor declared him brought dead. The primary cause of his death is said to be blood clot that formed on his brain from falling from stairs.

He was the third generation to chair the muthoot group. Apart from it he was former Lay Trustee of the Indian Orthodox Church and member of the National Executive Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and the Chairman of the FICCI Kerala State Council.

Muthoot finance is one of the largest Gold loan Non-Banking Financial Company operating in India. Muthoot Finance offers financial loans in mortgage of Gold metal.

MG George Muthoot was born on 2 November 1949 in Kozhencherry, Pathanamthitta, Kerala. He completed his graduation in Mechanical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology.

In 2011, Forbes Asia magazine listed him as the 50th richest man in India. In 2019, his ranking improved and he attained 44th spot in Forbes Asia magazine of richest man in India. As per latest source, he is currently the richest person in Kerala State.

Late M. G. George Muthoot was married to Sara George Muthoot. She was director of St. Geroge’s school in New Delhi. They were blessed with three sons. Two of his sons are directors of the company while one of his son was murdered in 2009.

In 2001, Mahatma Gandhi National Foundation awarded him with Mahatma Gandhi Award for his contribution to the Indian Industry. Later in year 2012, he bagged the golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility. He was also awarded with SKOCH Award for Financial inclusion in the year 2013. Besides this, Manipal University honoured him with outstanding Alumnus of 2015 award.
